PCMC Ob/Gyn Provides Newest Hysterectomy Procedures
Recently the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists issued a new position statement stating minimally invasive approaches should be the ‘procedure of choice’ for nearly all women undergoing hysterectomy to treat benign uterine disease. “When hysterectomy is necessary, the demonstrated safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of vaginal hysterectomy and laparoscopic hysterectomy mandate that they be the procedure of choice.”
The statement went on to advise that “surgeons without requisite training and skills required for the safe performance of vaginal or laparoscopic hysterectomy should enlist the aid of colleagues that do or should refer patients requiring hysterectomy to such individuals for their surgical care.”
Dr. Corey Forester, Ob/GYN at Primary Care Medical Center strongly supported the AAGL’s recent recommendation. “We continue to offer treatment options to our patients with their safety, comfort, and ease of recovery foremost in our efforts. We are comfortable with the latest minimally invasive treatment options and we are proud to comply with the most modern recommendations.” The less invasive options are associated with reduced pain and complication, faster recovery, and lower cost.
“We are able to avoid hysterectomy altogether for many patients with in office treatment such as endometrial ablation. For those requiring hysterectomy, the vast majority are performed without any abdominal incision in our practice and it is incredibly rare to require more than a small, single incision at the bellybutton if necessary. Patients no longer have to be satisfied with a large abdominal incision for hysterectomy . We are committed to staying on the cutting edge of treatment options for women’s healthcare in this region,” according to Dr. Matt Price, OB/GYN at Primary Care.
